Shipping fish?
« on: June 08, 2014, 08:38:02 PM »
Anyone have any advice for shipping fish? Going to be in Hawaii in July and plan on a fishing trip. What's the best way to get my catch back home?

Fedex over night packed in a Styrofoam box.  I get boxes that way all the time from Alaska.  Just make sure it is good and frozen before you ship it.

Our last trip to alaska we had the fish processed and and frozen.  They packed the Styrofoam coolers at 50lbs so you can just pay the extra bag fee and check it in with your luggage.  We found it to be much cheaper then shipping FedEx or ups.  It was still as hard as a rock 10hrs later when we arrived in Sea.  It was $20 per 50lb box on alaska airline.  If you go over 50lbs then you get a oversize fee added on.  Good luck in HI.

And that's the way we did it! Frozen solid in Seattle from Alaska. You won't need much clothing in Hawaii, so only bring one bag.

When you're there, contact Hawaii Seafood Co. or another shipper and see if they'll sell you an ASII waxed fish box with a styro liner. Use gel packs becuse dry ice is considered HAZMAT for commercial aircraft.
