My son drew Mt. goat for the 2nd time in Washington
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:46:44 PM »
So, a couple years ago, when they had the false run, my son drew goat.  but NO JOY.

Today, her drew GOAT   Mt. Washington B

Should be fun.

We've never been out in that neck of the woods.

P.S.  If you happen to know anything about goat locations out there, feel free to PM me.

Also, having never hunted goats before.....

What advice on planning?

Does anyone know if WDFW has a goat biologist, or any other tips on people to talk with?

Thanks,

Dan

In many places they seek out salt...  :pee: On flat rocks out in the open and the salt will pull them in... At least they did when i was out in the olympics.  :twocents:

I live in Shelton, not too far from there. If you ever need a hand let me know. My girlfriend is friends with a biologist that has worked with these goats so I can probably put you in contact with him.

I hunted the area back in '94 when it was archery only.  The WDFW will steer you in the right direction as far as where the goats are.  One thing to keep in mind:  according to the WDFW, the future of this hunt might depend on lack of conflicts with hikers.  Please don't walk up the Mt Ellinor trail and shoot a goat in front of a bunch of hikers like someone did around the time when I hunted it.  There are other spots to hunt where there are less chance of conflict.  Mt Pershing and Mt Washington would be a couple of other bets.

Get up and check the roads. Been awhile but the road above Jefferson Lake that leads to a drainage between Mt. Washington and Mt. Pershing may be washed out. Back in the day it held some goats.

That's awesome! I know the area well, just some advice.
Due to the amount of hikers. stay away from Ellinor and Rose. Start at Washington and hunt NE, there will be hikers but not nearly as many.
