quinault ridge
« on: June 19, 2014, 05:33:38 PM »
Has anyone ever hunted the quality elk tag for this unit? Just curious how many other people you saw hunting, since its close to the rez, I know there's only 5 tags for the rifle hunt. I'm crazy excited to hear elk talkin, out of all my years, I've never heard a bugle in the woods!!!

Did you draw the tag Kyle?  What are the dates?  Yes, I've spent some time there but the area has changed over the years.

It's good. I live close to the area and there will be no pressure in there when you guys are there. Can you hunt the bottom by the river with the quality tag or do you need to be a master hunter?

Had this permit 3 different times when it was a ten day hunt. Now it is only a five day hunt and that will make it a little tougher but still an easy bull hunt.

nine points as a group, it seems you can hunt the river bottom, its a short hunt, but it looks like theres a big number of elk in the unit, plus you can hope one of those big park bulls come walking over to say hi. Its gonna be a good hunt no matter what, I was just curious as to if anyone has experienced that hunt season and the amounts of people in the unit

I helped a guy who drew that tag a couple years ago butcher his elk on a river bar. They were bugling good and they were in them every day. I don't think you will have competition from tribal members, their season opens July 1st so they will have already been hunting for a while. It should just be the permit holders. The guy got a reasonable 5 x 5 but there was supposedly a 6 x 8 in there that he could have potentially got.

This tag has never been 10 days "AND" is in the prime of the rut. I drew the Peninsula tag the second year it was out. Great hunt that time of year. There are a couple of guids in Forks that told me with that tags they could guarantee a 370 class bull. Good chance for a bigger one I didn't have the money so I did it on my own, if you have the bucks get a local guide. Here is a picture of a Quinault bull. Her husband bow hunts that unit and hunted/scouted the archery season for his wife, she shot this one on the last evening of that season. She passed on other bulls.

This tag has never been 10 days "AND" is in the prime of the rut.
It was ten days as an Advanced Hunter hunt, and was October 1 to 10.

I don't think that tribal hunting should be a problem for you. I'd plan to scout
ahead of time. A few years ago we had a quality tag near there, we never even saw
the other tag holder.  If you don't already know I'd start figuring out which parts are
private land so you have that all squared away. Good luck, you definetly have an
Oppurtunity for a nice bull.

If someone guarantees you a 370 bull in Washington they are full of it. Especially on the peninsula.

Good luck on your hunt, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

It was a bull tag for anybody to apply and there used to be a master hunter tag there also and it was 10 days. I used to put in for the any body elk tag. This permit hunt only started when the quality elk hunts started and always has been 5 days long.
