What to fish for in Wenatchee July 7-11
« on: June 23, 2014, 12:26:46 PM »
I will be staying at Lake Wenatchee for July 7-11 or thereabouts.  What will be around to fish for?  Kings in the Wenatchee or Columbia?  Sockeye in the Columbia?  I'm familiar with Fish Lake and the trout fisheries.

I have access to a 19' boat and a drift boat, although I don't plan to use the drift boat this trip.

Kings on the Icicle and Wenatchee.  Mainstem Columbia should be open by then.  Trout and Perch in Fish Lake.  Lakes, Kokes, and Bass in Chelan.  Not sure when the Sockeye will open up.  I imagine Lake Wenatchee wont be open till near the end of July, but the Columbia may open up by then.

If you don't mind WSU I'll jump in on your thread.

I'll be camping up near Fish lake for the entire 4th of July week. Will have a 17 foot boat with downriggers ect... Looking for trout, kokanee, and crawdads. So far thinking Chelan for Kokes and maybe lake trout. Fish lake for trout. Not sure what Lake Wenatchee has to offer. Not sure where I'll toss the crawdad pots. Maybe walleye or salmon on the Columbia....

Open to pointers for crawdads, and anything else.

Today we did fish lake. Easy fishing for stocker trout and yellow perch. We kept 4 trout and maybe 30 perch. All caught on crappy jigs or plane hooks tipped with worm or periwinkle jigged right on the bottom.

The problem is the trout were stockers and had external lice like parasites, and about half the perch had white dots in their flesh. Some type of fluke......

Just not very desirable table fare. Will look to explore other waters the rest of this week.

Those fish are OK for consumption.  It is not desirable to look at, but it will not affect taste or you.  It is recommended to trim away the bad portion of the fillet and consume as normal.  I havent had any fish from there with that issue yet, but have from other lakes.

Make a trip to Chelan, Wapato, or Roses for trout/panfish/bass or swing down and fish the Wenatchee, Icicle, or Columbia for Kings!

Funny this just got bumped.  I was going to do that soon.

Is there decent salmon fishing in the Columbia around Wenatchee?  I will have two small children in the boat with me, so I don't want to do any combat fishing (Wanapum?) or places that are rough.  Kings or sockeye?  I would be in a 19' boat with down riggers.  Please feel free to shoot me a PM.

Kings are hitting right now at the mouth of the Wenatchee on the Columbia.  It does get crowded though.  Sockeye havent moved up in numbers yet, but will be here in a week or so.  Then it will really get crowded.  Just opened up yesterday.

We fished Thursday morning with Darrell and Dad's guide service for lake trout out of Chelan. We just don't have the gear and have never done lake trout so took a charter. It was a blast. We had steady action and landed 9 in 4 hours. Largest was 9.4 pounds. Them guys run a great operation and also do some great smoked trout.

Driving up 97 we see the boats trolling just above rocky reach dam. Thursday we watched a guy land what looked like a decent salmon.

Thinking tomorrow we'll go hit Fish lake for some kids entertainment doing catch and release. I get plenty of salmon in the lower river and salt that combat fishing up here isn't interesting to me.

One day we hit Wenatchee lake and tossed out a crawdad trap for a few hours while we trolled barbless lures. My son landed a 22" dolly that was pretty cool, but not retainable. We blanked on the craw fish, but only soaked 4 hours mid morning.
