Lake Chelan State Park Boat Launch
« on: June 23, 2014, 03:12:59 PM »
Anyone ever launch here? I am planning my first trip to Chelan this week! I wanna try for lakers and kokanee. I only have 150' of downrigger cable, so will focaus "shallow" for the lakers. Coming in from Wenatchee, this looks like the easyest launch to get to.

I have, used to spend a week there camping, boating, fishing etc...nice launch and if you are staying at the park you can overnight moor..

Thanks Buckmark, this will just be a day trip, trying to get started in the fishery. Hope to camp with the family in the near future. Excited to try!

Don't quote me on this, but 25mile creek supposedly has a bunch of fish :dunno: I am only speaking from what I have heard.

If you are going after lakers and coming from Wenatchee then 25 Mile Creek would be my choice, closer to the better fishing areas than the end of the lake.

You will need a Discover Pass to launch there though.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

HHmmm.....25 mile would be better for the lakers? Great tip, thank you. Are the Kokes closer to the city of Chelan? I think I need to find a map of Lake Chelan showing depths. With only 150' of cable, where I fish is gonna be "shallow".  If the lakers are not cooperating, I'd like to turn our attention to kokes.

Forgot about 25mile, nice launch and less pleasure boaters, and like others have said better fishing area..
Never stayed there but would run up from the state park..

Good luck, we took our girls up there when they were younger, we always had a blast. Never fished up by 25 mile but the section below the narrows is fishable with 150' of wire.

I cliped my downrigger cable to my fence and walked it off. I have 200' of cable! I was happy to find that out. The extra 50' will help out.

Don't know about the laumches as it has been over ten years since I've been out there, but we were hitting the Lakers in 200 to 210 feet right on the bottom with Dads and Me charters, or whatever their name was.

I have only been able to find one depth chart for chelan.  https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/publications/publications/871.pdf
Page 1 has the lower basin and page 18 has more of the upper lake.  I used the lower basin chart when I was fishing out of my cataraft when on vacation with the in laws a few years ago.  I only had a DR but not a depth finder so I would compare the map with my gps then drop the ball to the bottom and pull up a couple cranks.  The next year I went ahead and bought a fish finder and made my life a bit easier.  The depth chart does make it nice to decide where to go though.

C-Money...launch at the St Park & fish out in front of wapato point or go the other way and fish in front of the yatch club...but that area might be too deep for 200' of cable...Wapato pt is a bit shallower and don't forget to zoom your sonar to look at the bottom. If you find some fish try jigging with 2 oz jigs tipped with a plastic gulp grub (white) and a piece of herring or sardine...or just kick back and troll with your dr's...hope they are electric! For more info do a search on here and u will see some other post I replied to on how to troll for lakers...my dad is a retired guide on the lake.

Oh, and post some picts!...I miss "home"

My downriggers are Cannon Hand cranks with the telescopic boom, you can see them below.....If we take my friends boat, he has the electric Scotties. Thanks again for all the help, I will post a few pics of the trip for sure. Gonna be an early morning!! I was tying up hooks today. Size 2 long shanks for the Ace high flys, and I put a small smile blade out in front. I am gonna get some herring, but I'm also gonna try some perch rib cages soaked in anise oil to tip the fly. I also tied up some smaller squids just like the Cha Cha squidders for Kokanee. The Depth Map is helpful too!

Great fishing in the lower basin for both Lakers and the Kok's between Mill Bay and Sunnybank.  If you run north to south once and watch your depth, you'll get a good idea of where the deeper holes are.  Where the guides fish every day is within reach with 200 feet and they normally run east and west.

Well, between high winds and my illness getting worse, we did not fish Chelan today. :'(  Not sure when we will get out, supposed to be windy again tomorrow, and very busy at work. But I will get out, I must!
