East side elk
« on: June 27, 2014, 01:12:09 PM »
Hi guys I know I posted about he west side earlier this week,  but I'm not feeling to confident.  Reading lots of negative and bad hoof disease.  Any info on the east side would be great.  Wanting to scout this coming week and get it figured out.  Thank you

Lots of places, depends on what you are hoping for.  NE has some huge elk, but they can be very difficult to find.  Branched antler bulls though.  Most of the rest of this side is spike only.  What weapon?

SE or NE?  Getting info on NE elk is like pulling teeth!! Especially with such a low post count. SE elk info is almost as rare :dunno:
Also which weapon are you hunting with?
How far from home are you willing to travel?
Hunting solo or with partner/'s?

Little more info

:yeah:
NE has some good bulls but finding them can be very difficult and people talking about them is very rare. The central and SE spike only except archery is cow/spike in many units good elk numbers in the SE but lots of competion for them.
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

Who we kidding here.  Hey you want to hunt elk come on over to the east side and join every other Tom, Dick and Harry and hunt the Colockum.  You haven't bought your elk tag yet have you?  You know you have to choose either east or west right?

Jasnt  travel is no biggie.. Hunting with 1 or 2 more guys possible let three if they can get there act together.. But one for sure.  I know I'm asking alot but it's more info than none at all.  Just all these special permits and garbage is ridiculous.  But welcome to WA state...

Have a plan to care for the meat quickly if you are successful. Temps during archery season over here can put you on a very short time line.  :twocents:

You might look into the Whitman county/Idaho border country.  If you know anybody there the elk crop damage is becoming a big deal.

I would go East until you hit the Idaho line then start hunting. I don't give this secret out to much. Unless you drew the coveted liberal tag then your best bet is King county.

I'd find one of the units open to spike or cow for archery.  If there are any still.  I don't know how many there are but it would give you better odds than a spike only hunt.  And better odds than the NE corner.  NE corner is also any elk in a few of the units.  May still be any elk for archery in most even.  I haven't hunted the NE in a couple years.  I have shot elk up there and you can consistently see them if you can figure it out a little.

I hunted the rimrock one season because I didn't draw any special permits for the east side. It's spike or cow for archery. Just a thought if you didn't want to drive all the way out east. Quite a few hunters though, so plan to burn some boot leather.
