Looking for Reccomendations on BC Guides
«
on:

I am looking at taking my Dad on either a Goat hunt or a Moose Hunt in BC next fall. I would like to get a few referrals from people on here that have gone with Guides in BC.

How good of shape is he in? Makes a HUGE difference when choosing a goat guide!

He is in decent shape now. 65 yrs old, no health problems. he walks and rides his bike regularly. He is not in Mountain shape yet, but could be by next October. He would have to improve his fitness a great deal before doing a Goat hunt. Thats why I am inquiring about a Moose Hunt as well, I have found a couple guides who also will do either Moose or Caribou.

Do you have an approximate budget? Horses or no Horses?

Horse back would be fine. If its a Moose hunt I was thinking in the 5000.00 per range. If its a Goat hunt 9000.00 per seemed reasonable.

Not sure where you can find a reputable guide for moose at $5,000. Most of the meat moose outfits I know of are a bunch of crooks with very poor success. But $9,000 for goat sounds about right. I'll double check my proven guys and their pricing and get back this evening.

What is the market rate for a moose hunt in BC?
Depends on a lot of factors. Trophy Moose or meat moose, Canadian or Shiras, float, ATV or horse, air taxi access or vehicle... For trophy moose with a premier guide in remote area you are looking at $15,000 plus with the better ones being an addition 3-4K plus air taxi service. Was about half that price before The Outdoor Life channel became popular
Most of the meat shiras atv hunts I know run between $7,500 and $9,000. Not sure why but Alberta and Manitoba seem to have better price and more reputable services for meat moose. Though many the better ones have waiting lists of three to five years or are booked by Cabela's.
Bearcat seems to have some screaming deals. I know absolutely nothing about their service! Could be a great deal for someone
I know both Carpsniper and I have discussed taking a trip up there to see how they run their operation. Would be great to find a bargain close to Washington. Especially for spring bear on years we are not drawn.

having hunted with them last fall and having a great time and killing a top notch moose I would highly recommend Stone Mt. A/Z with Bill or Brent Dubois in Windemere. They've been in there since the 1960's and are absolute pros. I worked with them in the mid 80's and they taught me to guide and pack. They will give him a great hunt. Tell Bill that Ryan recommended them if you talk to him. Great goat area too.

I hunted archery shiras with Scott McKenzie of Sugar Valley Outfitters in 2006, and would highly recommend him. He just sent out an email saying he had two November 2014 moose openings for $9500 each, with a bonus whitetail included. These hunts are out of his home compound - you have a separate cabin to stay in, but his wife cooks you a good dinner every night at their house. It's pretty comfy after a hard day hunting.
