Coon help?!
« on: June 27, 2014, 10:52:47 PM »
My brother lives in olympia and he has a family of coons under his house!  He would like them relocated.  Thurston county wants to charge him $400 to do it.  I was hoping someone could give me some advice or help in making this happen for much less.  He is willing to buy a trap and I wouldn't mind attempting to catch em.  He doesn't want to kill them...  Any info or help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

It is against the law to relocate them without a permit.

Trap them, then dispatch them. Save pelts. :dunno:
Not sure how that works outside trapping season though.

just told him if he didn't want them killed then just wait til they are out from under the house and block off all the points of entrance. lock them out.  They will find a new home.  I am pretty sure if he has anyone else come relocate them they will just catch and kill them. for a bunch of money

If I was closer Id trap and dispatch them for free. Pelts are all Id want. I do like me some fur.

I can see how that's possible. I feel bad whenever I kill something unintentionally. Road killer / Standing on moles :chuckle:

The reason it's not BS to not relocate is all you are doing is #1 most likely creating a wildlife problem for someone else, #2 potentially spreading disease to another area, and lastly, likely killing Mom and the babies anyways (but a slow death) as they will be out of their home range, attacked by other coons for invading their territory, have no idea where to get their daily grub and have no places in mind to den or get away from danger.

P.S.  Get stopped transporting mom and babies and you are looking at a $2500 fine.  It's unlikely you would be able to trap all five at the same time, so what are your plans, relocate individually, or hold them until you have them all?  All bad ideas.
