Help finding musket caps
« on: June 28, 2014, 03:04:16 PM »
I am having a hard time finding any in stock. Anyone know where some can be found near Vancouver is best but up to the Longview area will work too? The only place I have not called to check yet is Bob's in Longview. I prefer the RWS 1081. But honestly will probably buy the first ones I come across. Need to get the stepson out to shoot his first muzzy and I need to get out to sight in my new peep. I'm stocked up with 3+ pounds of powder and over 100 bullets but I literally have 6 musket caps to my name. I dont know how I let myself get so low.

Bobs will most likely have them. Have you ever tried #11's though? I've never had ignition problems with them and you can put rain gear on them, unlike musket caps, which keeps them secured on the nipple and pretty much waterproof.  :twocents:

Wenatchee stores have them if you want to travel??  Or if you ever make it this way I can pick some up and hold them for ya??  Not sure of the requirements to send items like this...

I will have to call Bob's tomorrow. I dont really have the time to travel to get them right now. The only way I really can pull off Longview is my dad works up there so he can stop after work as long as I can talk to him, our conflicting work schedules keep us playing phone tag to voicemails. I had called Fisherman's Marine but that was a week or so ago. I'll have to try again to see if they got any in. I have some #11s because that is what my stepsons gun had for a nipple but I replaced it with a musket nipple and the original #11 nipple has since gone missing. My gun is a Vortek, and though I have never had any issues using musket caps with it going off I have heard too many bad stories on them to risk the #11s in a possibly damp hunting situation. Cause the nipple on the vortek I swear is near an inch long. So if anyone in the Vancouver area wants a tin of #11s hit me up. They are RWS and I think I used maybe 5 out of it.

I ordered 1000 mag number 11's last year because I couldn't find musket caps. I would just order them on line. you could get some other members together and make a big order to save on the 27.00 hazard shipping rate. The more you order you can lower the cost between each box of primers. Just a thought good luck.

I've used #11 rws caps for 10 years in some major downpours.never had a misfire with them. I wouldn't worry about it.

Problem solved. Bob's said they have both CCIs and RWS in stock so I will get some this week. Like I said before if anyone wants a tin of RWS #11s in the Vancouver area you can have them, only used less than 10 of them.
