My wife shoots a Browning X-Bolt stalker in 300WSM! :yike: it fits her perfect and that's what she wanted. She's good for about 7 or 8 shots at the range, which is pretty good considering she's 5'4" and 130lb and the rifle weighs under 7 lbs. If I were you, I'd definitely lean towards a 7-08 or even a 270.

A youth model would allow you to add a recoil pad to the butt stock which may add an inch of length which would help if you choose a bigger caliber. 243, 270, and 308 are very common rounds to find and cheap to reload. Good luck!

7mm/08 in that model would get your wife started nicely, most important is to get her a gun she likes and she will enjoy hunting even more.

Awesome. I really appreciate all the info and knowledge. With my wife just starting out of course I want everything to be perfect and don't want her to shy away at all. So all the experience helps. I was wondering how much a recoil pad would help. I'm still not sure if I want to go with the youth and pick one of those calibers or just get a higher end gun and just have it dipped like you said twosix.  I'm sure the cheaper method would be just get the 7mm-08 youth and call it a day. But it's funny how you want nicer things for the wife than I did when I got my rifle haha.

I didn't read all the posts but it's easy to lengthen the length of pull

I hope she finds a rifle that she really loves and enjoys shooting! It's pretty exciting getting the wife into hunting. My first date with my wife was a buck hunt 3 miles behind a locked gate. She didnt complain once. Right away I knew I had better hang on to her.
