Another long weekend of pounding the hills , We had a few good encounters and I was amazed that the wind stayed in our favor. I was hunting some really thick cover and had two different bulls at ten yards or less, one young six had me held up from moving into the herd right at dark so I threw a bugle out and he almost ran me over . If you have ever seen a bull elk fall over without being shot its a hoot. with twenty minutes of light I decided to scale up a hillside that would turn a sheep back when I got up to two of the four bulls I was pinned down as I said when this bull came in I ducked behind a big fir clinging to the hill side , he stopped and bugled from oh eight yards as he got just past me he caught my wind and turned inside out he slipped and fell rolled two or three times before getting his footing he ran abut thirty yards and stopped wondering what the hell was going on . then yesterday I worked in front of a group with a raspy bull the last second I move about ten feet good thing or im pretty sure the lead cow woulda stepped on me . the seven cows past by as I was just down wind the bull stopped and trashed a tree for five minutes then slipped by through the trees at 12 yards very nice bull but just not a shooter. I'm debating hunting elk one more week or going to look at sheep. the rut has really slowed down for sure. thanks to my buddy chris smith for coming along this weekend and and Vaughn for making us lunches ... Dark in Dark out is starting to be a serious pattern !
