Pesky coons and possums
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:01:38 AM »
So the coons and possums are getting my chickens.
I have killed a few of them with a .22 but is to loud to shoot in the dark. I have a neighbor that is kinda close and is a *censored*.

What do you think would be a good silent coon killer. These shots are in the dark and inside the chicken house. Any air pistols that can kill a coon??

As a kid, the neighborhood had coon and skunk problems and we got one of those catch 'em alive traps.  It worked great because when in the trap, a skunk couldn't lift its tail to spray.  We would either pop it between the eyes with a 22 CB cap (pretty quiet) or the silent way was drown it in a water filled garbage can.   :twocents:

just get old michelle nelson over there  she is a new licensed trapper and would probably love to use her live traps on ur coons

I personally like the taste of coon!

I doubt a bb gun is gonna do the job...just live trap em and shoot em in the morning!

You may try some sub-sonic .22 ammo.  I shot some of my buddies last weekend and you could hardly tell the thing went off even w/o hearing protection.

That's what i have my mom culling the coons with, she can't do traps with her being the crazy cat lady (she'd catch her cats more often then anything else).

I have one of those Gamo 1200 fps air rifles to keep them away from my chickens, but it sounds almost as loud as .22. How about a little archery practice?  you can screw in a mini-mag light to your stabilizer hole.

Cant really trap. There is peacoks and cats running around. I am thinking about getting a compressed air pellet pistol.  Cant use a bow in the chicken house not enough room.

Been surfing around and found a few cool pellet pistols but they are spendy.

Go to Cabela's.com and look at the RWS pellet pistol. That'll do the trick.
The more I get to know the less I find that I understand.

Go to www.snareshop.com and buy a bucket trap kit, runs about $25, then use vanilla wafers, rarely catch any cats, coons love the wafers and the traps are really nice.  Peek inside first skunks also love the wafers.

--I forgot to mention - no louder than a mouse fart.  Some PCP pistols are easily as loud as a .22lr

You cap your buddies behind the ear?
