Washougal river help!!!
« on: August 06, 2014, 09:07:00 AM »
Well my buddy and I are down in camas working all week and were gonna give the washougal a shot, doesn't look very convincing considering all of the people swimming and floating, was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to go/ what to use, want to try and catch chinook or steelhead, any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Also any other places decent to fish down here right now, hope everyone is having a good one!

I know steelhead are running good in the columbia and should be hitting the washougal anytime. What is your work schedule?

The work schedule is 7am to 330pm, do you think there are any in right now, or a good chance to catch one? Or any idea how to fish em? Saw the water is Purdue low and slow... Thanks for replying

I know they have been picking them up at the mouth of the cowlitz, and in the N fork of the Lewis. There should be a little action in the columbia at the mouth of the washougal as well. Im not sure of the resource, but you can look at the fish counts at bonneville dam. They count daily and post to public....salmon and steelhead. If the counts are good then you know they are that far up river and moving in numbers.
As far as how to catch them....im no expert, but there are different methods. Plunking a spin and glow seems to work well. Different colors dependent on weather, tide, depth, and what the fish want at that moment. If you can find someone local, I'd say ask them for specifics.
I hope you guys can get out and pick some up. Good luck!

We'll didn't turn out very we'll, got all of our stuff geared up and ran up to bonneville dam to try and plunk for steelhead or a king. We'll we had medium action rods and about 6-8oz of weight.... Haha not a good idea, splintered my Lamiglas and we only caught a squawfish or pikeminnow, oh we'll, such a good time lots of laughs my buddie and I had about fishin that part of the river with not the right rods haha, packed up and headed home! After we stopped at Lamiglas to exchange my rod for a new one!

Wish i would have read this earlier.

You can fish bonneville with your set ups, i would have told you where to go and i only use 3-4 OZ of lead up there. Let me know next time and i can direct you to a better spot.
