Calling, Crawling, or Death From Above
« on: August 06, 2014, 09:58:43 AM »
Well, what's your chosen/planned cup of tea for this elk season. Having meaningful conversations (calling), spot and stalk or still hunting (crawling), or perhaps death from above (tree stand hunting) to knock down Edward or Edna elk this season? Perhaps a combination of several methods?

Im gonna try calling this year (newbie). Even if I don't call one in, it would be cool to get a response from one.

 :yeah:
The first time I was calling and got a big angry bull to answer, that was pretty cool.

I usually wander around and find them. Will likely do the same this year.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

This year I have a spot picked out for some "death from above". Just gonna sit high and quiet for the first few days.. If that doesn't pan out I have a few other spots within a 20 min drive for some calling/stalking... Can't wait to get out there! One more scouting trip to check/retrieve the trail cams and then it's on!!!

You forgot one of my favorites 'dogging' (tracking). Next to calling, my absolute favorite.

Ahh, good point.  Kind of falls into the crawling plan of attack but a bit different :)

Gonna cut some tracks and probably jump em out of bed, and it's on! Run and gun elk hunting! Or maybe not, I didnt get in good enough shape for that this year.

Im going to have a cow call (diaphragm) while sitting in my tree stand (bow hunter) and im going to wait... Wait some more for the bulls to move through and wait for my true spike to pop out...
Yeah, thats the game plan have scouted and mounted my tree stand already.
Cheers

It's all about calling and fooling elk into thinking you're another elk. Otherwise I'd hunt the rifle season when it's not so damn hot out  :chuckle:

Since I can only shoot spikes and cows, I'll be setting up on a well traveled cooridor and bringing the death from above!

Well it will be death from above for 3 of us if our stands that have been hung since the 12th of July don't go up in smoke. If not it'll be crawling, calling, death from ground blind, option E. Everything above lol. Being cows and spikes hope an arrow flies.
