Guys,
My first post! I've only been lurking a few days. I, too, am looking for coyote opportunities around the TriCities (living in Richland). I've wandered as far north as the Seep Lakes area, and tried calling in Lower Crab Creek- so far to no avail. Both times were before snow had fallen, so perhaps they are hungrier now.
I visited the Department of Fish and Wildlife's web pages:
http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/and from that found a few places with Feel Free to Hunt signs about. One place was along Blanton RD, east of Eltopia. I heard coyotes out there, but none came to my call. I didn't see much to attract them, except range cattle. Pretty barren ground.
I liked the suggestion about Ringold. Having watched a few (too many) coyote hunting videos, shotguns can be quite effective out to 70 yards or so. The obvious choices are a 12 gauge full choke with Dead Coyote loads (which are T shot, Hevi Metal). The Dead Coyote loads aren't cheap, but wouldn't be the most expensive part of your trip (gas being significant, though cheaper than before).
I am giving thought to hunting around Hover/Finley, but haven't picked out any land to try.
I am a fan of Randy Anderson's videos, calls, and methods. Anyone from around TriCities (very liberally) wanting a hunting partner, give me a call. Did I mention I have yet to call and bag a coyote? I am hungry! I have gear, sticks, calls, etc.
