semi auto rifle?
« on: September 27, 2014, 08:12:38 PM »
Hi H.W. members, my father is looking to purchase a semi auto rifle for hunting. I suggested a bolt action for him but he insists on a semi auto stainless and synthetic stock. I looked online but came up empty, only semi i could find was the Browning Bar but that rifle is wood stock blue barrel and over a grand. His price range is around $800, so do you guys know of a semi auto that meets his requirements?

AR10 would work. Don't know if you can get one for $800.

Semi-Auto, Big Game rifle, Stainless, $800 or less...good luck with that :chuckle:

Should be able to get a Remington 750 for $800, but I don't think I've ever seen one in stainless.  Benelli makes a nice one for a couple hundred more, though I have never seen one of those in stainless either.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I'm hunting this year with a Grendel.. I put this together a few weeks ago and if you kept it simple you could do one for around 800.............

you can get some old semis in a blued type of clad stainless, but usually not much synthetic option.  you might also try to build an AR to get under your price request.

AR15 in 6.8 SPC

I've been fighting the urge to build one of these for a while now. There are just so many other projects going right now!

I think that a Mini 30 might be the easiest option for a under $800.

Benelli R1 might work, but I don't think they make a stainless model.  There are a few on gunbroker for $899.  Supposed to cut recoil by 50%.  Never used one, but have heard they are pretty reliable.

Worst thing about the BAR is having to let the bolt slam home to load a round.  Lets all game animals within a mile know you're there.

Browning BAR, FN FNAR, and Winchester SXR are all basically the same gun.  You can get the Winchester cheaper than the others, around $700.00.  Still no stainless option.  Sounds like the Ruger Mini 30 or 6.8 are the best options offered so far.
