How do ya tell a sharptail from a hen pheasant in the field?

I find they fly slower and often make a "clucking" sound.

As Forks stated the "Clucking" noise they make is a dead give away, they also have a white underbelly. When hunting with us you learn to ID them quite fast, if you accidentally shoot a hen it cost a steak dinner for everyone that is with us for the day..  ..
Yesterday we were into covey's of over 100 birds.  This cold weather is really consolidating them..

The Sharpies are holding tighter now then they were in September.  Where we hunt (just south of Havre) it has been below freezing for the past few weeks.  We are finding them at tops of draws that lead into wheat fields.  The majority of them when flushed are just flying 100 yards or so to the next draw to be worked again.  They are not blowing out and going for miles like we see earlier in the year.  This will be our last weekend hunting them our season ends the 15th.  Packing up and heading back to WA. next week.  It's been a great season, have been over here since the middle of September..We will have to meet up I'm just a 1/2 hour so of Olympia when in WA.
