High Hunt - Off Limits
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:41:01 PM »
What is the penalty for being in an area that is closed?

For example, there are a few areas that aren't burned, that hold good deer, but the access roads are locked down due to fire concerns...even through October.  What's to say one couldn't just walk in from a connecting trail system and have the whole area to themselves if everyone else thinks it's *closed*?

The Entiat drainage could be really good next year if we don't have a bad winter.

Just sayin'.   :dunno:

There's closed areas, not just closed access roads or trails. Last year we were old stiff fines for being inside a closed area.

That's something you'll want to really check on. Most of the time it is total closure, not just roads. Penalties were in the 2K range and we're patrolled pretty thoroughly by personnel with radio contact.

Not sure exactly what area you are talking about but as an example the areas that are normally served by several Outfitters here that normally access the high hunt areas from the Billy Goat Trail head access to that trail head is closed so the outfitters are taking the long way around and going in via Andrews Creeks over to the Ashinola river  to sheep MTN and on over to Crow and Corral lake areas. You are looking at a 30 to 35 mile horseback ride.. Not for those that don't ride horses on a frequent basis.....
