Illegal to own ammo that isn't coded. What do you think?   :(

What a crock, do they really really think the killers are going to give a rats ass, they are not the ones going in to purchase it anyway, they will get it black market the same way they get their guns, what a joke. :bash:
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

I agree. Sad part is Washington State is one of the states supporting this bill.

I think this act infringes on the right to BEAR arms, and is unconstitutional.  I think representatives O'Brien, Williams, Flanagan and Pedersen, who introduced it, need a lesson in constitutional law.  I think if you live in their districts, you should work like crazy to VOTE THEM OUT!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

The rising cost of ammunition is already putting the hurt on law enforcement training budgets across the country.  I can only imagine how much more this encoded ammunition is going to increase those costs.  Additionally, the bad guys are still going to get their ammo no matter what and I guarantee you won't be able to trace it back to them.

This same bill came up in last years legislature.  If you are a NRA member, you can get email updates when bills like this come up in your state.  I sent emails to my representatives.  My two Republican reps sent emails back saying they would never support any legislation to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights.  My one Democrat rep (who has since lost her reelection bid) sent out a form letter from one of her staff that only said it had died in committee.  She obviously supported the bill.  But luckily, the bill did die in committee last year, and never came to a vote in our legislature.  Not surprisingly, it has come up again.  I would urge everyone to email your reps.  With all the Demos in office (locally and nationally), we need all the help we can get.

(I should clarify.  Not all Democrats are Anti-Gun, but as a general rule, they tend to be.)

I saw this somewhere else and Immediately sent a email to Mike Hewitt, Maureen Walsh and Bill Grant yesterday.  Well I was surprised this morning to see an email back from Hewitt today.  Guess they do work right after a holiday between weekends....
Here is Hewitt's reply.

"Cameron, Thank you for contacting me; I appreciate your thoughts. I am a gun owner, NRA member, sportsman, and I have always been a strong 2nd amendment supporter during my tenure in the legislature.Fortunately, this bill never even received a public hearing last session, so I did not have the chance to vote against it. Occasionally, bills are introduced to stimulate discussion on a topic, and while issues of gun control usually draw a lot of attention, they have a difficult time getting through the bicameral legislative system. If I can be of any further service, please call. Best, Mike(360) 786-7630"

So it appears that this bill is dead.
But stay on top of it as it will come up again.

This will never happen.

It is a private company out of Seattle (http://www.ammocoding.com/index.php) that is trying to push this through. They couldn't get the ammo manufacturers behind the idea, so they tried getting legislation to do it instead.

For one, the ammo makers would have to keep a database of each numbered box and where it went. They make billions of rounds a year. Not gonna happen. Then retailers would have to keep a database of who bought what box. Not going to happen. Finally the state would have to keep another database at a huge cost. Not going to happen with all the budget cuts going on.

Of course the guys that came up with this idea will charge a licensing fee for EACH BULLET with this stamped on it, so they would get incredibly rich overnight.

If you want to give the company a piece of your mind, there is a Contact Us button on the page I linked to above.

Ammunition Accountability Act - Who to Write Letters to in Opposition.
« Reply #12 on: January 08, 2009, 12:32:06 PM »
I got a letter from my Sportman's Club today about this.  However none of the letters or posts have any contact information on who to send letters and emails to.  Who is the best person to send the letters to?

Don't worry as all the nea sayers on here have said, the Democratic party will never take away our gun rights.  This has nothing to do with that...   :bash:
