Pearrygin unit tag - Question
« on: September 28, 2014, 10:52:41 AM »
I was one of the recipients of the fire-related extra tag releases this week from WDFW.  Got an antlerless whitetail tag for the Pearrygin unit.  Unfortunately, there is little time to scout as the tags were released two weeks before the season starts.  Does anybody have any suggestions on which part of the Pearrygin unit to focus on for whitetail?

Not looking for honey holes, just a place to start given the late notice for this tag restricts how much pre-scouting I will be able to do.

Thanks

Close to the river bottom.   Mostly private.   Fraser creek and beaver creek has a few.

Not alot of honey holes unless you have private property. Theres usually a few running around by perrygan lake in huntable areas.

I honestly wouldn't waste my time trying to fill that tag. I'm not being sarcastic either.

I got mine last year on the other side of the river in the Alta unit. The deer started moving up from the river before daylight. Since I can't walk I started REAL early and just sat on a hilltop and they just pass buy on the way into the higher hills.  I wish I knew the mile marker but theres a spot where the River swings close to the hiway maybe 5 miles east of Carlton and the right side is all State land, pretty burned now as are the state land signs. There's a small spot to pull over and park for maybe 3 cars. The land slops steeply up and over a ridge. I saw 5 legal bucks come out of there mostly after the majority of the hunters left on wed. Since I can't walk well I have no idea whats over that ridge.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

I shot a whitetail buck in perrigyn unit. I could've shot multiple does, every year. Got to go down low, can't give secret spots but low is the way to go

I see White tails every year up East Chewuch alone the river. And in the Upper Beaver drainage, if you can find public land in there.
Tons in the fields where you turn towards Sun Mountain Lodge, mostly private property though. They were herding up with the mulies last year. I had never seen that before.
