Hunter A should tag it IMO.  Hunter B ensured a wounded deer wasn't running around the woods. Just seemed the right thing to do. If you guys are hunting buddies have conversation about it.

I would say the degree of desire to tag the buck by hunter B would be directly related to the size of the rack. I will bet that if it was a 30 incher, hunter B's tag would be on it before it hit the ground. Especially if he knew hunter A.  :chuckle:

I would say A tags it. I have put a second arrow in a deer for the Bro in law last year. Did nothing but speed up the process from the damage done by his arrow.  Among friends this is an easy one. I believe I'd still do the same thing for a stranger. To me is is the right thing to do. Just a harder decision when not among friends.

Now, not among friends and the first shot wasn't fatal....nay be a different dilemma.

Update... I was hunter B my Dad was hunter A. What really sucked was I had to burn a Tucannon Muzzy deer tag. (10 minutes into the season)  I felt I had to tag it since I tipped it over, and I was in full view of other hunters.  I absolutely did not want to tag it.  My Dad was hell and gone from us up the canyon.... But a dead deer 50 yards from the road, in full view and no tag, yikes, not a conversation I would want to have with LEO.
Well today the gods took pity on me and I drew the Tucannon deer tag again. I can't wait.

The Coug gun deer was the deer in question.  Luckily my dad connected on his buck that evening.

Congrats on the draw. Sounds like an unfortunate situation there. I think by law you did the right thing and karma paid off.
