Wynoochee cow tag help...
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:20:29 PM »
This year i drew a late archery cow tag for the wynoochee as my 3rd option. Only reason i even added the choice was because my neighbor has hunted in the area and was gonna go with me and show me the area, unfortunately he had a family emergency about a month ago and has informed me that he wont be able to make the trip. He has given me a little bit of info but I personally have never hunted the area. If anybody would like to give me any suggestions of roads or areas to try out it would be greatly appreciated!! Not looking for anybodys secret areas or honey holes just a general area to concentrate on would be great, more than willing to share some meat if I were to be successful. Thanks

your only real option unless you buy weyerhauser acess permit is to hunt the green daimond land.  hunt the 7300/7400 lines.  Work the feeding feilds, be patient, and expect to see alot of people.  there just isn't that much land open to the public for free anymore.

I thought the GD land was permitted out there now? like the Fields and that area?

The mitigation fields are state land and I don't believe GD has made that area a permit area.....yet! Also, there are several farms along the Wynoochee Valley road as you head north from Montesano that have elk issues. Contact conflict specialist Scott Harris and R6 office in Montesano and ask if he has some farmers that need some elk killed.

all the gd land up there is open to public access.  gates may be closed but can still walk in.  bad part about the farmers land is once they leave the farm, they are on access permit land  :dunno:

there is small bunch on the satsop/nooch border but they are hit and miss.

Thanks for all the input fellas! I'm hoping to spend the first 5 days down there since it will be before the general late season starts to help cut down on the number of people.
