Two more days????
« on: December 13, 2008, 12:12:22 PM »
So with two more days left with the late archery elk hunt, who still out there trying to fill their tags.  I am going to try to get in an AM hunt on Sunday, and then all day Monday.

I still have mine, and my Montana tag is still good til the 20th. Unfortunatly I have 2 freezers that are completly full of Montana muley and Washington moose.

I think my partner and I are going to give it one more try tomorrow morning, with the smokepoles in the Coweeman. Hopefully we'll have fresh tracking snow.

I'm charging up my Garmin Rhino right now.  My hunting bud was into a herd yesterday, which gave me a little boost.  Ive got a freezer 1/2 full myself having taken two elk already this year, but one more should top it off.

Just got back from the wintson unit and the snow is coming down.  I was up around the 561 and there was a good 12" at noon.  There was some critter movement but not much. Good luck to all.

I put on several miles today and didn't cut a track. How does multi season tag soup taste? Ah never mind I think I'll kill one tomorrow.

LittleDave and I trudged around in five to six inches of snow today.  We followed a bunch of deer tracks and 1 set of elk tracks.  I swear UFO's are sucking these animals up out of the forest.  The woods sounded like a battlefield today with all of the trees crashing and limbs breaking from the weight of the snow.

The only thing I caught today was a cold.  I really need to buy some quality moisture wicking underclothing.  However, I loved being out there in the snow and the scenery was amazing.  I just wish we cold have seen an animal, even if only way off in the distance.

I actually managed to spot a few elk this morning, all be it at a distance and while I was in my truck. Spotted the small group twice, once on the drive in, then later after I had gone up and hunted a spot I found a lot of sign a couple days ago I decided to go down and see if I could find where those cows from the morning had gone.  Drove out to the clearcut instead of walking since it was a new area to me and sure enough got busted since they were standing on the edge of the reprod in the clearcut. I backed up and parked then went into the reprod to see if I couldn't find them but no luck, lots of sign in there but you couldn't shoot in there if you had to but I still spent a few hours in there trying to locate them. Was down below the snow line so no tracking snow.

In the morning I was up above the snow line but not a track up there, not sure where all the elk had gone that left all the sign the day before last. Still haven't decided if I am going up tomorrow or not, may wait till Monday after the storm breaks a bit. Still might go both days. Decisions decisions
