Road hunters beware

For those of you who have been or may know someone who is road hunting the East Chewuch road,the landowners have had enough! I know a few people who own property along this road from Methow valley estates to the Boulder creek road,some have roots there going back 100 or more years.A couple of them wanted me to throw this out there so I am. All property along this stretch of road is private(eccept for a small sliver at the south end?)and all is well posted.I guess there were numerous instances of peopl road hunting this private property this year.People stopping,(even kids)bailing out of rigs waving rifles around. One person i know witnessed a guy and his kid shoot a doe from inside the vehicle!From the pavement and the dad did the shooting!Theres a laundry list of no-no,s! The second of many instances i guess even involved one of my guys. My friend was headed down to town from the 30 mile area at about 11a.m on friday the 17th,when he was all done in town he had some minor rig problems on the way back,he limped the truck into a gate setback just north of Buchanons old place.He got under the truck and saw(and heard) a white flatbed ford driving slow about 100 yards or so to the north of him,driving aways then turning around and doing it again.He kept working under the truck and about 1-1.30 he heard a shot,sounded close he told us but he kept working.Then a few minutes later the noisy white flatbed appeared again about 100 yards in front of him,going back and forth real slow.He finished up and was putting tools away when he looked up the road to see the truck stopped with some guys throwing a deer onto the back of the truck and haul out.He quickly threw the rest of his stuff in the back of his truck and took out after them but they had a jump on him and they were long gone.He checked in with a couple of the prop. owners and they had not given any permission(they never do) and did not recognize the truck description. There are homes,cabins, kids,pets etc along this road,some of which that cant be seen from the highway.On the right side headed north its private from the pavement all the way up the hill to the rock bluffs. I was asked to put this "out there" so I am. They will be watching next year and they will prosecute.

Sorry to hear that.   No surprise.   I get accosted a lot during the first of November when I am shooting (camera) from the road on both sides of the Chewuch.   They think I am hunting.  Generally they are nicer  to me once they see the lens.  There are always permit boys notching in the next two weeks too.   NOT my idea of a quality hunt. but

Definitely not isolated to the north end.  I know of a member that caught a poacher shooting from the road on private property and wounding a deer......lets just say they didn't get away with it.  I am pretty sure they will never see that rifle again and after they are done paying their tickets and talking to the judge....they will not return.  Land owners need to prosecute all these people...they are giving real hunters a bad name.  I hope our states courts start throwing the book at them.

Aside from the illegal shooting and trespassing, this year the dust on some of the roads from the road hunters in our area was awful.  Opening weekend was very dry and the constant stream of road hunters up and down the roads made it look like a fire was started. I know some of the landowners in our area post their property just to try to keep the traffic down during the season.

I've been seeing a large amount of road hunters.

I've been deer hunting on private property, and i kept seeing this same rig about 10 or so times a day going up and down the road.
And its all private property on that part of the road.

Unless you physically cannot do it, just walk into the woods and hunt.

I think something needs to be clarified.....road hunting is not inherently bad, to each their own.  What is bad is hunting clearly posted private property, shooting from the road, and shooting toward and or around peoples residence.  It would be no difference if you trespassed on foot to harvest an animal on private property.  Some hunters have no respect for private property....driving or on foot.

Exactly jrebel, no one is knocking road hunters but when they are clearly doing it on roads that are posted,that is the issue.Remember its the hunters responsibility to know where hes hunting.They have made it pretty easy for people along this particular stretch of road,there is no trespassing,private property and no hunting signs all through there! Like what was said earlier its these kind of ya-hoos that give "hunters" a bad name...my
