Well it was quite the weekend...Friday I was out all day seen 23 deer but nothing I wanted to shoot and on my way out I run into my huntin buddy...I didn't see he tried calling me to see if I was out so I stopped to talk to him and his dad and ended up spotting a deer within about 30 seconds of being there and it ended up being a spike buck about 2 min later he was dropped in his tracks...dead before he hit the ground...his dad was tagged out

Saturday rolls around and I'm out with my dad, sister, friend and grandpa..we hunted all morning to no luck with any bucks...lots of does again....about 10am I decide to run down the road to check out another spot I've Seen bucks cruise mid day...the first side of the cut with a hidden pocket doesn't produce so we head for the far side and it just starts dumping rain so we wait in the truck for about 15 min to let it die down and have a cup of coffee.....we both get out and sneak over to the edge of the landing and 200 yds down the timberline is a deer feeding...I duck down and setup the spotter and instantly see spikes...I show my grandpa where its at and one shot from the weatherby and the spike tumbles over...pretty easy blood trail on this one...it was like someone dumped out a 5 gallon bucket full right to the deer 30 yds away.

Now today....I get up at the usual time and head out to find someone beat me to my spot  :bash: so I turn around and head to my backup spot where we got the 2 spikes .....I parked and waited till light and my dad tried getting the far end where one of the spikes were shot but someone was there so he came back....after a few hours of glassing the other truck left so he went down there and instantly spotted a deer and called me to bring the spotter over so I packed up and headed over and no sooner I get out and grab my gun and spotter he tells me buck...nice buck so I hurry over and get setup but the buck disappeared ....about 50 yds away we spot a doe and she's staring in the direction of the buck and he comes up out of the brush and stands there broadside at 400 yds....my dad tells me to shoot him! So I setup the bipod and lay the cross hairs above his back and touch one off and he stands there...I missed...I rack another round and raise the cross hairs ever so slightly more and touch off another round and he jumps and spins and hobbles 10 yds and turns around and stands there...so I send another round and he takes off running....they tell me he's hit he's not goin far....me and my friend work our way down there...I'm doing this on a week old sprained ankle so I'm taking my sweet time being very careful....we get to where he was standing and I got blood  :IBCOOL: so I start tracking bright red blood...sweet lung blood he's not far....yeah right after a half hour45 min of tracking and losing his trail 3-4 times he makes his way to a creek and the blood tail goes right into it....15 ft across and its moving from all the rain we got so my friend works his way across and tells me to wait so he can look for blood to make sure he crossed...no sense in both of us getting soaked if he didn't cross so I backtracked a few yards and made sure he didn't go a different direction and all of a sudden I heard a whistle and I turn around to see my friend shoulder his rifle and fire...I yelled is he down and he doesn't know he ran off so I told him to wait for me...I eased my way across the salmon filled creek and pull myself up onto the bank and sneak my way over to him and he told me he stepped up onto the trail and the buck walked out and stared at him at 15ft so he shot it...he said he wasn't sure if he should or not cause it wasn't his buck but I assured him he did the right thing. We proceeded to track him by the scuff marks on the ground and a few blood drops....40 yds later and we have a buck down  :IBCOOL: a nice dark horned 3x3....we turned him over to find one bullet hold in the shoulder and a broken leg from a shot...he looked at me and said you got a great buck....I looked at it, inspected the bullet holes and stuck out my hand for a handshake and said congrats Chris you got your first big buck...he said no that's yours...I told him I didn't fatally would it, you found him and put him down he's yours.....boy was he excited....buck fever set in and he was shaking for a good 20-30 min  :chuckle: he couldn't believe what just happened....what an exciting day....we got him back across the creek before gutting him so he would float across and then back up to the cut....my son dragged the crab line down and we started dragging him up....about halfway up he yelled at me to come to the deer....he found another bullet hole....I ended up hitting him in the shoulder but the hair covered it up and we over looked it and he tried telling me it was my deer again...I refused and now he's taking it in for a shoulder mount
Great second blacktail if you ask me....it was a great weekend and has been  great season so far...my sister bags her first deer and my buddy gets his first big blackie...155lbs dressed out
