I just got back from a drop camp in the Norse wilderness for 11 days to try to fill my tag.
I shot a spike in NM a few years back and that was fun, but I have always wanted to pull the trigger on a big bull.
I love back country, and after doing a few exploration hikes in the Norse peak area, It was clear to me that there was no way I would be able to get a big bull and bring him out without help. I have also always dreamed of doing a horseback hunt into wilderness so this seemed like a great opportunity to combine the two. I called up Paul from Chinook Pass Outfitters (
http://www.chinookpassoutfitters.com/Pages/default.aspx) and he said he would take me and a buddy in for a long drop camp in an area that held Elk (out of respect for his business I am withholding the area I hunted).
We went in several miles and we saw elk every day we went out. (torrential rain kept us penned up in our tents for a couple days).
On Thursday I pulled the trigger on a decent 6x6 at 200 yards.
I want to put in a good word for Paul and Chinook Pass outfitters. He really runs a good show. 28 years with the Yakima Sherriff's dpt. Dependable. Checked in on us while we were out there. Reasonable Rates. Knows the country. Put us on Elk. What else can you ask for?
Now to find a taxidermist around here....
