Cabelas 1hp grinder troubles
« on: November 03, 2014, 04:44:16 PM »
So last night I busted out my brand new cabelas 1hp grinder to do my deer burger, thinking I'm gonna knock this out in no time...WRONG. I could not get it to stay unclogged. I had the big plate on and used frozen suet. Before I bought this, for deer, I would always use the Kitchenaid stand mixer with the meat grinder attachment and it worked well. It was a little slow but it would eat anything you fed it. This cabelas grinder was getting membrane and other connective tissues wrapped around the blade and pressed into the plate. I got so frustrated that I went to the bullpen and called in the kitchenaid. I had to bench my starter and I don't know what to do know. Anyone here had any similar problems?

Thanks,
Ron

I have the same grinder and I just used it to grind two deer and two antelope, with no problem whatsoever. I've had it three or four years now and I've never had it clogged up to where it would stop grinding. I have trouble feeding the meat in fast enough, it grinds so fast. It does help if the meat is nearly frozen or even partially frozen.

I think Crunchy may be right. If it's clogging up that quickly, something's not right.

I'm gonna feel stupid if that's the case. I had the flat side towards the incoming meat, so the angle side would push it through the plate.

I had a friend do the same exact thing this year with the same grinder..... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  After he called and I told him to turn the blade around it worked flawlessly.

Don't worry....you are not the only guy to not read the instructions.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Been there. When using frozen suet it really needs to be fed slowly. Especially if you run it through twice. Adding a little bit of water when mixing your meat before grinding will help as well. Processing companies also sell a Pam style spray to help.with the clogging issue as well. :twocents:
