Big Scat... Wolf, Bear, something else?
« on: November 07, 2014, 08:34:35 AM »
I came across this big pile of scat while elk hunting in the Blues last week.  Its definitely too big to be coyote, but I'm not sure if it could be from a bear or cat or wolf.  Opinions?

The first pic is with a .300 Win Mag cartridge.  The second is with the cartridge and my gloved hand (medium size glove).  And the last is with a pile of coyote poop I found about 10 yards away and moved next to the large pile to show the size difference.

Highly segmented and mostly hair = cougar in my book
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

It does look cougar to me. Hair is cris crossed and not spiraled, also ends are rounded except the last pinch.  They normally bury it unless its territorial marker or it was interrupted  or just lazy. I've found lots of it that way. Normally its at least partially buried, but not always.

Whatever it is it is not eating veggies. That means either a cougar or a bear you don't want to encounter imo.

 :chuckle: bear lol  :nono:
either Coyote or as others might have said Couger.
some bear do do looks tubular but most is cow pie or splat looking as this pic.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
