Reservation Hunts

Has anyone ever been able to book a hunt through WDFW's new reservation system? I have tried the last two years to get on there at the exact precise moment a hunt unlocks only to have it already reserved. The limitation they put on those hunts are stupid. The lack of opportunity and also the lack of actual days which are available. Honestly I only go after his one area just because it butts up with a piece I already hunt and have permission at. But still to only have it available to such a small amount of hunter for such a small amount of days(1 hunter and 2 days)during each season is just STUPID.

I say any chance is better than no chance.  The only reason those lands are in there is because of the landowner being able to say when and how many.  If they don't get that type of control, then they just don't allow hunting.  Or they go to the Written Permission system and just say no more permission will be given for the year, even when you are asking for three years in advance.  At least you have a chance, but to limit yourself to one property is pretty tough to guarantee anything.

I had better success when it was by written permission.(got permission a couple times) I was told by the land owner last year that unfortunately since joining the program he couldn't grant me access  during those dates(don't know if he was blowing smoke.)

I agree, I can just picture  a 1000 people siting there with there finger on the button. I'm am not fast enough. I was fortunate enough to get written permission for the first time for next week. First time someone even answered the phone. Hell of a nice guy.

I anything they should go to a point system. Like they do with the special permits.

100% waste of a hunters time. I have some near me and it's a worthless piece of property to hunt on. It butts up against thousands of acres of timber land that you can access from down the road. Ask Jason Stevens, first hand knowledge right there.......

I agree with some of the sentiments.  We can do a better job providing this access...first come/first serve is better than nothing and the reservation aspect is a step in the right direction.  Maybe we need to make sure everyone gets a reservation that wants one before anybody can sign up a second time?  Folks are limited to 3 reservations at any one time...but if you were the first to a premium property this deer season...maybe you go to the back of the line for that or any other property?  Just brainstorming here, but there has got to be a better way to do this...if there isn't, then I will be happy that we at least have what is available now.

There are some very good properties in the program. Chances of getting them are pretty slim. Its not difficult with all the technology to quickly see if a property is worth trying to get. Even more so if you drive and check them out first. There is no reason to waste time on the bad properties.
