Whole Deer
« on: November 16, 2014, 11:03:09 AM »
That's what I needed I suppose, a good butt-whooping As I said to each their own and I don't hate anyone, and I really don't want to be the enemy of us, that makes me feel horrible. And of course there are 18 other things I didn't consider. I'm a *censored*. Also I just helped a disabled veteran hunter get a doe last weekend. Having a bad day doesn't give me an excuse to be a *censored* but maybe a reason to be forgiven...eventually?

Good lord man. Get over it and yourself. You will be a macho backcountry hunter until god decides you are no longer.

Instead how about appreciating other hunters for their successes no matter the difficulty.

I hope you were just joking.

Edit:  we have packed many a muley out whole, from many god forsaken places, even way downhill or over hundreds of windfalls... you need to pack yours out in pieces?

You have made it abundantly clear you have ZERO clue what you are talking about. There are ways to get an animal out whole with out road hunting. It's not that difficult. I bet if you hunted elk with my group you would change your attitude in a hurry. Definitely hunt harder then you would ever believe. Good luck getting that foot out of your mouth.

I find it funny when people complain about "road hunters".

Most of the time people are driving, on roads of all things, while entering and leaving the woods. Oh, and when they drive from one location to another. Are they road hunters or hunters driving on the road? To most, it appears as there is no difference. Now if they are creeping along in granny gear and won't let you by, then you might be right in calling them road hunters, BUT just because they stop to glass or creep slow along a cut on their way to another area... that does not mean they are road hunter.

And if you are in the woods, who cares if they road hunt? Is it because road hunters shoot animals spooked by hunters in the woods? lol Not often, and if you spooked a deer to a road hunter then maybe you need to work on your own methods rather than bash someone else's.

One more "cannibalistic" attact from one hunter towards others.

It is ashamed that anti groups like PETA can just sit back and let the "my way is better than your way," hollier than thou hunters attact and belittle fellow hunters.  Driving a wedge from inside and seperating user groups.

As much as I hate to say it, it will eventually all go away, one little piece at a time.  If you don't believe that, you are living with your heads in the sand. And tearing down others choice or style of hunting just gives them that much more encouragement and has been shown time and time again, every November, we loose a little more.

For example, I can guarantee you, if the issue of baiting deer and elk isn't removed by the Comission, it will appear on the ballot as an initative, just like hounds/baiting for bear & cats, and trapping.

And we should all know by now how that will turn out...

So keep on trashing your fellow sportsman, because it will eventually catch up and effect your way of doing things, but then it will be way past too late.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

WOW! Are you kidding me? Get over yourself. We all need to stick together for our fight.

Can't believe you just wrote all this like you are better than someone else. Everyone has different techniques when it comes to hunting and most of them work. I just had knee surgery a week ago and I road hunted all weekend. Wasn't going to stay home while their was a hunt going on that's for sure. I guess I wasn't a hunter and just a killer while my knee was mending? lol

I like your posts normally, Mr. Mykiss.....but that's one of the snobbiest, most closed-minded posts ive read on here in a real long time.

PS is that a picture of a whole elk in your avatar? Must have been a road hunt.

Some of us are disabled hunters who either have no choice or cannot go far off the road and have to treestanding or blind hunt.

For years I drove by a camp that always seemed to have whole deer and elk hanging and wasn't sure if they were just lucky or maybe hunted at night ?  Turned out to be some good old boys in their 70's who hunt deep and hard but no longer have the backs to pack animals out but they have the patience to use an 18 lb honda powered capstan rope winch to pull these animals out miles if need be.  I've seen them spend 12-15 hours on the "pack out" .  They are hard-core hunters by anyones standards and getting them out whole is the only way they can.

Somebody is full of himself today.

I rarely bring a deer out any way other than whole because I like to keep my meat clean and bacteria free. The more hide you remove and the more pieces you cut your meat into, the harder that job is. Especially if you are one of those "lazy" back country hunters who bones everything out. How are you going to hurt after the hunt if you don't pack out the hide and bones? Slacker! (I've seen some of the carcasses guys like you leave behind and I'd be embarrassed to leave that much good eating behind.)

See.......... that elitist, my way is better than any other way knife cuts both ways.

And not to burst your bubble (OK I want to burst your bubble), but those back country animals you hunt? They are way easier to kill than the ones who live their lives in the vicinity of roads and road hunters. Those back country animals haven't learned to fear two legged predators like the ones down in civilization have. Many times they will stand and look at you and wonder if they are supposed to be afraid of the new critter in the neighborhood. While civilized animals know they'd best find the ugliest hidey hole around, and disappear before daylight happens.

I've hunted back country that would make you pucker up. And not because it's harder to hunt there, but the odds of success are usually greater. As for getting deer out whole, in my younger days, I'd slit the hind legs and slip the front legs through and toggle them to make a pack out of a whole animal. Then I learned the joys of using a deer drag which is way easier on my back. You learn to plan your hunt so the pack or drag is mostly down hill and it's not so bad. Mile to two mile drags are not uncommon.  Then there are closed gate hunts where you may not be able to drive up to your kill, but you can still take a bike in and pack one out whole on your back or bring a cart in to lug it out. Or you can still use your deer drag.

This is about the dumbest attempt to try to denigrate other hunters I've ever seen. Your whole thought process is flawed.

These old time hunters must have been slackers in your eyes for getting their animals out whole.
