Nebraska monster buck
« on: November 22, 2014, 03:56:52 PM »
Made a trip out to Nebraska to hunt whitetails with some buddies from Wyoming. Saw a nice 150 class buck the first day in a blizzard but couldn't get a shot. Day 2 we had high winds and the wind chill was at -20 and the deer just hunkered down and didn't move much. Day 3 I passed up a 140 class 4 x 4 since I can kill deer that big around home. Day 4 the weather got nice and the temps soared into the teens. Passed on another real nice 4x4 in the morning while watching some canyons. Around noon I moved to a ladder stand on the edge of a wood lot. Saw a big buck chase a doe out about 350 yards away but they ducked back in after about a second. I knew it was a bigger whitetail than I had ever shot but did not get a real good look at him. About an hour or so later I see a couple does working along the edge about 200 yards away and acting like a buck was annoying them.  I could see a big blocky bodied deer back in the brush and trees but he was way back in the shadows. He finally came thru a small gap and I could see head, part of a big antler all of his neck shoulder and chest. I put the crosshairs behind his shoulder and dumped him. I expected to walk up on a buck that was maybe in the 160s which is bigger than my biggest buck(156). What I walked up on is a buck that exceeded my wildest dreams. 7 points per side plus forked eye guards and mass and tine length. He gross scores 191 2/8.  I can email someone pics since I can't seem to post them. No high fences, no bait pile, no giant tract of private land. Just hard hunting in the right place at the right time.

Wow!  That is spectacular   Love it when the actually get bigger when you walk up to them.  That doesn't happen very often.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
