Super Frustrated
« on: November 25, 2014, 07:49:45 PM »
I drew a late West Klickitat tag not anything special but it gets me in the woods a few days earlier, but anyway I hunted extremely hard and solo. So here is why I am frustrated. I would leave the truck at daylight and come back at dark, the weather wasn't exactly the best but I still felt good about it. I put a lot of time and miles in and out of 4 days I am guessing I saw maybe 20 deer and no for sure legal let alone shooter bucks. I stalked within 10ft of a coyote, and I was super stealthy the whole time. What gives? Where are the deer? The sign was there, but no deer to be seen. I have hunted there in the past and 20 deer a day was a normal day. There was a lot of wind but still the deer don't just disappear. So where do they go? What do they do in these conditions?  Ok I am all done I will be heading to Little Naches after dinner on thursday and I know I will see deer there.

Yeah I know this is gonna sound stupid but I did have a big chunk of private land that I could have hunted but I all I saw there last year was smaller bucks. I was hoping that if I ventured out that maybe I would get a chance at maybe something bigger. Lesson learned I guess.

I have a few friends that have had some great success in this unit in the past hunting public land. A friend of mine had the muzzloader tag that opens Dec. 1st I believe and I plan to hunt with him a day or two. I've experienced the same frustration you speak of in this unit. Checking my trail camera in there hopefully tmr

hairloss, increased tribal hunting, illegals poaching, predators, or that's why they call it hunting and not shooting.   This states critters are in tough shape in more places than just the Methow.

Also bare in mind that these animals have been pressured even by normal standards probably since about the first of Sept.   Not including tribal or poaching.

I'm pretty sure the wolves in the area don't just eat chicken.

Wolves in the West Klickitat, Never!  At least that's what the state says  :dunno:  But I will say that we have a whole lot of cats in the West Klickitat.  I was up when we had the snow a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe how many cat tracks I cut.  Didn't see any wolf track though.

I don't know where they are ranging the most.   One of the few packs I just get to hear about, but don't have to deal with

The late rifle tag hit the rut pretty well this year. You should have been seeing a legal buck or three a day holding out for a wall hanger.
Were you sitting in one dead spot all day each day? You need to cover ground looking for cruising bucks hitting all the spots you found holding does during scouting and general season hunts.

Cats, wolves, you decide but their is some nice benchlegs that come out of there. Numbers have decreased mostly for elk though

Our deer herd is hurting for sure.  Every year it gets a little tougher to fill tags.  The cats are absolutely out of control.  It's sad to see the demise of this deer herd.

 :chuckle:
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
