Converting floating decoys to field decoys
« on: December 09, 2014, 01:06:21 PM »
Hello,

I have dozen older floating decoys that I would like to turn into field decoys. I have found a few things online on how to do so, has anyone had success in doing this? I just recently acquired permission to a wheatfield and had success in it last weekend with someone else's decoys. Just seeing if anyone has tried it

Thanks
"Cut em"

Seems easy enough to make a cradle to fit the keel into.  I've got the opposite problem, I have some shells that I want to make into floaters.   :chuckle:

lokidog, if you go to Duck hunting chat and look up blackrock that guy will tell you all you need to know about turning shells into floaters. He has some great posts on how he does it and will answer any questions you have.

If you have access to 9 wire, I've made simple' hair pins' that will hold the decoy up right.

Sounds like camo and dog should work on a trade.

If your not worried about keepi ng then floater function and just want field dekes you might try snipping the keels and bottoms off and drilling a hole for a stake. Could use some two part epoxy and glue in a bit of pvc for a stake guide in the deke.

I will save you all the trouble of cutting etc.....  use these and you can still use your floaters if you choose.

Ha ha, those are interesting.

I guess I am off on my reading of the OP, I was thinking Goose decoys since that's what I think about when I hear hunting fields.
