Advise on 6.5 Grendel Barrel Length
« on: December 11, 2014, 10:49:25 AM »
I think Im going to buy a BHW 264 LBC (65 Gren).... My main purpose for this gun will be a little plinking.... a little bench shooting for fun/accuracy, but chiefly I will take it on some deer and antelope hunts. If Im carrying it in MT for deer, there is a fair chance I could come across an elk that needs to be exterminated... which I would not hesitate to do with this caliber...

Anyhow, my point is... Not really pushing the long range envelope where a 24" barrel will really pay off... will an 18 or 20 suffice for my needs? I think I would limit shots to under 500... if that matters? I figure it would, but just want some support here!!!

So, users or internet experts... or if you stayed in a Holiday Inn express last night... throw out your opinions. I Appreciate Them!

Looks like you got your answer from three of the experts.  I'm in a Red Roof Inn tonight, can I give an opinion?   :chuckle:

I think you need to get off this black op business and get back to bow building :chuckle:

I have an 18 and love it.  Perfect combination of accuracy, speed, and easy handling.  Shot well out to 600 yards with it... not sure what my velocity was out there, but it did it just fine.  If its too long it'll be heavy and awkward to carry with little added benefit other than a few ticks in velocity. :twocents:

:chuckle: I have been telling him that a lot lately :chuckle:

18" on the Grendel is money. 1:8 or 1:9 twist.

I have settled on the 18" BHW 264... Black Peened... Cant Wait. Ordering dies today.

Does anyone know what the best value is on brass anywhere???

Hornady brass is what I run in mine. One of the few guns I buy factory ammo for. Then shoot it up and load whatever bullets I would like. Or you can just buy there brass.

That's what I do, the price is right on the Hornady A-Max Match and the SST's. They are both very accurate throught BHW 8 twist barrels. So you get one accurate firing and have the brass to reload. I think it's a better option than just purchasing brass when a guy  first starts shooting a .264 LBC/Grendel.

This is slightly unrelated, but not too far off... This seems ridiculously low priced.... $39.95

They are as good as any forged lower out there. Word on the street is allot of those lowers leave Anderson Arms with S&W M&P markings.
