Low flyers are a big reason a dog that is steady to wing and shot is a nice thing to have, another reason is that if there are birds spread out and they don't all go at once, you can flush multiple birds.A dog that goes with the flush can run through a pile of birds that otherwise would have stuck to the ground. There is also the saftey factor that a dog will chase birds right over the edge of a drop off and can get hurt.My buddys 8 month old shorthair pup did exactly that in Montana, chased a pheasant right off the edge of the river bank and fell straight down about 20 feet to the gravel bar.He didn't get hurt but he yelped and was a little leery of drop offs after that,he paid closer attention to where he was running.

not much beats watching your dog hold through the shot til he's released and commanded to flush!
