Road trip and my First Steelhead
« on: December 30, 2014, 12:05:33 AM »
Took a trip down to the Oregon coast with my fishing buddy to chase some winter steel. Up until that trip I haven’t had much luck with steelhead. Had a summer steelhead on at barrier dam before it broke my 8lb test leader after three runs… After that trip I was hooked on steelhead. After a very long drive we got down to the river and started pounding the water with jigs. About the 5th cast into a new hole my bobber went down and my heart stopped. I set the hook and felt that beloved head shake. Who doesn’t love a bobber fish... Got it all on film too!
Cant seem to figure out how to post a video up on here but the link is

I've heard many old steel fisherman say you've got to have a 100 hours in before your first one.     Nice fish!

Nice fish! Started steelhead fishing at age 10. Fished hard for winter run fish only. Caught first one at age 14....   :yike:   Really enjoy the chase!

Thanks everybody its been an experience for sure!

I've heard many old steel fisherman say you've got to have a 100 hours in before your first one.     Nice fish!

I don't know if i put in 100hrs strictly steelhead fishing. But i have put in my fair amount of time fishing for them without so much as a bobber down. Every outing is a learning experience!

Your float seemed like it was down forever! Great job and nice fish!

When that float went down I set the hook! The fish just didn't realize it until a bit later!

Sweet video and nice fish. Your hooked now.  What song and artist in Your video

Thanks! The song is called Strong by Will Hoge.
