Amazing dogs on a coyote hunt.

You know...I watched a few minutes then turned it off. I guess I find it a little disturbing. Yes, we shoot yotes, call them in, decoy them, I suppose some are even trapped. However, the "running down" of the yote with the trucks and then turning the pack loose on it to basically rip it apart is disturbing to me. It just doesn't seem sporting in the least. Put the hunters on foot, working their butts off to follow the dogs, killing the yote in a more humane and quick way, that might change my mind.

If legal in their area to do this then so be it. However, its not my thing.

I was more talking more about the dogs being amazing in there speed and ability to catch the coyote.  I myself think yes a little inhuman but not much different than hound hunting for bear, coons, bobcat, cougars, or pigs.  All just a preference in hunting.

I would bet they lose more to injury from fences, mole holes, and running type injuries than to the coyote.

Looks to me like the dogs are just 'holding' the coyote once they catch it. I would bet those song dogs could be released unharmed after being caught and I have no doubt some of them - if not most of them - get released to run another day.

I was watching a guy in TX hunt with dogs, he would sit and call the coyotes in and then send the dog usually one after to interact and bring them in close to the shooter.  Band coyote down!  I guess its true to each is own.  if you dont like it dont watch it!

I've known a couple of guys that made a lot of money back in the high fur price days running grey hounds on fox and coyotes.

Videos of chase hounds and decoy dogs savaging/killing coyotes is one of the reasons it is now illegal to have a dog present when hunting coyotes, as the law is written it is illegal to shoot a coyote while you are bird hunting if you have a dog present.  When WA passed the dog law I spent some time trying to get it changed at least to just pursuit , no go they didn't want to see dogs used in anyway to take coyotes.  My pointer used to lay along side of me on a coyote stand and keep an eye on the up wind side of the stand with his nose.  I'd put a red vest on and load the shotgun with birdshot and we'd hunt birds on the way back from the stand.  Now I have to leave him in the truck and that just pisses him off.

my Terrier just lured 2 in a couple days ago. He was unaware of the one closing on his backside when the one in front of him fell. Dog #2 has a bullet in him from 510 yds and limped off.
Another pair will fill this slot soon.

I would love to use dogs on a hunt like this. It is probably the most humane way of getting yotes. You can decide to let them go or skin them with this method. It could be one of the most effective ways of getting rid of excessive song dogs too - if that is the goal (though you can't ever get rid of all of them).
Too bad 'hunting dogs' are used as a psychological excuse for anti hunters to get their corrupt fangs into killing our heritage. It's too bad many hunters go along with that corruption. Too bad there are so many hunters who don't understand logical hunting methods......

It's nice to see dogs used for their intended purpose. 

BTW- that type of hunting is NOTHING like running hounds for lions or bears.
