For a GI anyways, you don't have to pay more than that if you don't want to. For a German it's a lot more than $2k to start out.

Thanks Addicted, good info.  I have had invitations to boar hunt in Ukraine and have hunted ducks in Uzbekistan, it is a wide world, other traditions are of great interest.

It is a Blaser R8.  It was my Afghanistan present to myself a couple years ago. Shoots about 1/5 MOA with my eyes and 1/10 MOA when someone else does the shooting.

I am in Germany... I haven't bothered going hunting myself but I have seen what people are killing and I have spent a lot of days in the field.... It doesn't even come close to what we have in the US.

I was there for 4 years as well and never felt the urge to go...    I flew back every year for hunting season.   Are you stationed there now?

I am.... I was going to hunt in WA this year but I was TDY for 8 weeks just prior to the season and I was ready to go home to the family so I cancelled the trip.

Europe or otherwise, perhaps I am the only one who finds the photo of the fawn disturbing.  That kind of photo in the hands of anti-hunters would get them a lot of mileage.  Better to keep that one to yourself,  in my opinion.

Yep...they are worth shooting because they are a nuisance ....  Plenty of those back in the states. I still have yet to see anything taken outside of an estate or without paying massive guide fees that would even come close to convincing me that hunting in Europe is better than the US. If you find a place to kill a Gold Medal Red Stag and Alpine Ibex without paying out the ears then that might make the claim more convincing but even then the opportunity would be so few (if it even exists) that it certainly wouldn't compare to the hunting we have back in the states.

You did leave one huntable species of deer in Europe off your list... Whitetail.... there is a huntable herd of whitetail deer in Finland.

Germany has strong hunting culture and I do like that about this country. Land access doesn't seem to be the problem people make it out to be if you are just looking to kill an animal... but it still doesn't compare to what we have in the states.... and prime land access is certainly more of a wealthy mans game than it is in most parts of the US. For this reason I prefer to return to what I consider the best hunting continent in the world... North America... (though I admit a strong argument could be made for Africa being top)

Plenty of those in the states that people are more than happy to let you kill 12 months out of the year. Show me a Gold Medal Red Stag or Alpine Ibex killed on public land without huge guide fees. I'm over here, I have been in the field and I see what guy are killing. From what I have witnessed it's in no way better than what we have in the US.... but at least it's hunting.

Sure is one sexy piece of equipment!  Are they just as expensive over there as they are here?
