WDFW seeks volunteers to count elk with and without hoof disease
« on: February 09, 2015, 06:54:30 PM »
I would love to do this, any interest in partnering up for a few trips ?
WDFW will reimburse volunteers for mileage during the survey and some commuting distance.
My vehicle is not up to traveling logging roads, but I plan on fixing that as soon as I get my IRS refund...
Just thought it would help with a little pre-season scouting...

During the months of March and April, volunteers, in teams of two, will drive a set distance around a specified survey point to locate groups of elk and determine how many elk are limping within the groups. Volunteers will need to have reliable transportation and binoculars. WDFW will provide some additional equipment. Access to the internet and the ability to use a GPS is preferred, but not required to participate. Training is required and each member of a volunteer team must attend one entire training session in order to participate.

During the training, WDFW will be asking for volunteers to choose several survey points as well as provide a timeframe they will be available to conduct surveys. Equipment and survey materials will be distributed based on these choices.

 Just remember to add the "0" after the number you count! :chuckle: Reason behind that, "that is for the one's you didn't see" :o

Ya just gotta love the WDFW :chuckle:

The goal here is to give locations so they can come kill them off careful what you wish for.

Or offer more permits, or expanded seasons (maybe give ML new units)  :dunno:
Really does not matter to me, anything I can do to help.
This includes harvesting an elk with hoof rot.
