Hey guys,

I was talking with my father in law this last weekend about how much taxidermy is worth.  He has the #11 boone and crocket roosevelt elk.  What do you think something like that is worth?

A lot of you guys are probably wondering why you would sell it.  But how many people have houses that big to fit it?

People that buy other peoples taxi mounts do it for decoration and not because of its score. I've seen good mounts sell for a few hundred bucks at best.  And like others said, why sell. Its priceless to the hunter that got it.  It not just a mount, its memories. At least for me.

Don't tell my wife but I designed our house for that reason, 28' vaulted ceilings in great room and 10 ceilings in basement.. :chuckle:

Maybe he's moving into a house that doesn't have room for an elk head? Maybe he's just wanting to know value for when he's gone? Lots of reasons. It's a good question. What do you do with mounts that are no longer wanted or that you just don't have room for?

He might want to contact interior decorators.  Elk heads, deer heads, bear rugs are popular for woods lodges and rustic restaurants.

I'm hoping someone can answer the question so I can tell my wife how much she can sell my mount for when I kick the bucket.  Otherwise I'm pretty sure she'll just take it to the dump. :dunno:

I would bet it would be closer to 8k or 10k. I got offered 5K 6 years ago for a Muledeer my dad shot in 1956. Scores 263 3/8. Cabelas, Bass Pro and traveling horn collections like you see at sport shows all buy big heads
