Blackmouth, area 9. Recap: No keepers but....
« on: March 06, 2015, 08:13:41 AM »
Anyone heading out this weekend? I'll be taking the bro in law, his dad and uncle out to drag some gear tomorrow. Plan on leaving from Everett and heading over to PNP and work that area and skunk bay. May fish the bar a bit depending on conditions. Anyone going?

Thanks.....also just double checking the regs which show they must be fin clipped...

CHINOOK - min. size 22". Other SALMON species - no min. size. Daily limit 2
(combined). Release wild CHINOOK. Season may close earlier if CHINOOK
guideline is attained.

Am I crazy or is this a more recent change....I didn't know they clipped 'em. I might just not be remembering.

New to the salt game, just trying to get geared up and going.  My first outing in area 6. We caught 4 fish.  1 legal keeper.  I still have more to learn.  I have 30 years of lake and river fishing experience, but have tried to stay away from salt as it is a gear killer.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

According to the Salmon U. site MA 9 has been really slow. I used to fish PNP all the time but gave up, too many seals grabbing fish away from the fishermen. :bash: :bash:

Yep, last trip out with the bro in law last season he hooked a dandy. I knew when the line was coming up way to fast what was happening. One tiny quick twitch of the line was all I needed to see. Talk about a foggy morning that day.

You mean that one dink silver you struggled to land? Lack of sleep must be getting to you....

 :chuckle:

I find if you troll on plane your hook ups are much more sunk in....gets them right on top as well.

PS. That is not my FJ, mine is pink.

Chinook retention has been hatchery only in A9 for a long time.

No keepers but did have an interesting experience.

Do you own a red/white Arima? Maybe a 18 or so footer? Did you also fish Skunk bay. Did you really think that since I had gear out and was beginning my troll that you REALLY needed to stop 25 yards ahead of me. I mean.....Its not like I was the only darn boat in a 1/2 mile and you powered down and started jacking with your gear dead in front of me. Oh wait, you did. I was not happy. I suggested you give me a little room and your excuse of "you didn't know I was trolling that fast" is lame and stupid. I was trying to be reasonably polite considering the dbag move you pulled. We were the only two boats in about 1 square mile? What....is this humpy season and there are 10 thousand boats on the water? Nope.....winter blackmouth.

Regardless......they got the point and got the heck out of the way. We had a great morning of trolling, one sub legal hook and long line released just behind the boat.

People are definitely morons on the water.  Very few people seem to give a crap about anyone but themselves.  I can't count the number of times people have done this same thing or set up 20 feet (yes, I said TWENTY) down current drifting for lings.

I've been thinking about hand launched torpedoes.....
