Rimfires
« on: April 03, 2015, 05:57:20 PM »
I haven't seen a lot of space or even threads about rimfires on here. Am I missing something? Possibly in the small game area or ...?
Anyway, I saw that Cabela's was advertising the Marlin Model 60 DLX (has checkering & sling swivels) advertised for $179 a couple of weeks ago. I called and got my name on the list for a 'rain check'. Hopefully I'll be able to get one. I already have the 60SS (stainless steel) version. When I got that one a couple of weeks ago I had to do some scope swapping to get all the .22's set up the way I wanted them & have been bore sighting and testing (fine-tuning) them ever since.
I'm curious to know what you all shoot as far as .22s are concerned. I know there's an ammo shortage, but I'll bet most everyone on here owns at least one rimfire.
I've been thinking about a .17HMR, but..........well, let's just say I'm still thinking about it.
I'd welcome any and all input - especially what loads have worked best (and worst) for you. I hear a lot of negative things about the Remington Thunderduds, but have never had any issue with them.

Spend a little and get a rem. Nylon.

When rem. could build a decent product.

I shoot a Ruger takedown ss synthetic with a simmons 4x32 most of the time but i also have a Henry golden boy that is beautiful and i left that one with just open sights. As 2labs suggested the remington nylon series was good i had a nylon 66 as child and wore it out but that was back when bricks of thunder bolt were about $7.00 my favorite to shoot with.I also had a 522 viper and it was a good gun too but i pointed it the wrong direction twice one day while out shooting and my dad smashed it over a rock  :chuckle: I also had the standard savage model 64 and i cut the bbl down to 16.25 and that thing was super accurate i killed tons of rabbits with it and it would eat anything i put in it.

i lusted after one for 20 years found one at a price I couldn't pass up, sold my marlin and quit smoking plunked down the cash. It's killed coyotes, coons, ground hogs, grouse, rattle snakes, and a truck load of grey diggers. It may be my favorite gun

The mag version would be fun I bet.  I found a good deal on the LR with a scope.  Yeah, grouse fear it.  Wish we had lots of squirrels.  :chuckle:

My favorite .22 rifle is my old J.C Higgins model 31, shoots like anything else and is very accurate.

I like my 77/22 boat paddle better than any of my other .22's.

I also have had great luck with Remington Thunderbolt ammo. Works fine in all the 10/22's I've run it through and it's as accurate as any other bulk .22 I've tried.

Thanks, Carp. I should keep you in mind for that and some other things, too. If I Start saving right now, I can probably come up with that in a little less than a year - maybe. Then save another 3 months for a scope. I appreciate you posting that. I should put a picture on my refrigerator just to keep it from sliding down the priority list. I have three Remington Model Fives - a youth .22LR, a full-size .22LR, and a .22 WMR. I like them all, but looking at that Ruger just gets my heart to pumping. The first rifle I ever bought for myself was a Ruger M77 in 7mm Rem Mag. I loved that rifle. I'm assuming that the rimfire version is the same quality (way above average for a .22LR nowadays).
