muzzy changes gonna happen or not?
« on: April 03, 2015, 06:38:48 PM »
I just looked at WDFW's site and the top story is about the rule changes being finalized next week, but the proposed muzzy changes (adding the 22 GMUs for early season including Lewis River,Siouxon, etc.) were not listed.Maybe I missed something,or that was a pipe dream all along?
If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.

I was really hoping for the siouxon to be added. That was the main reason I let my points ride in the multiseason elk draw.

They can't mention every single change in the news release they put out. The additional muzzleloader elk units are still in the recommendations to the commission. The commission could decide to not accept that recommendation but that's not going to happen.

Here's a map that's part of the presentation by Jerry Nelson to the commission on Thursday:

Then here's the summary of all the recommendations for elk seasons:

Bobcat, the map shows 550 as just white. Does this mean they are leaving it as is with a late muzzy season?

The map is only about the early muzzleloader season. I believe 550 will no longer be open for late muzzleloader as it always has been. It also will not be open for early muzzleloader. Not sure why they chose to do that. But who really wants to hunt those sick, hoof disease elk anyway?

Actually it will be open for early muzzleloader, according to the proposals. I just looked it up. Unless that has changed and that's why it's white on the map. I guess I'll find out on Thursday if I make it to the meeting.

You are right with this one. I think Weyerhaeuser might have asked to align the times people were in the woods so their patrolling hiring schedules had less seasonal fluctuation. Just my guess.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

I'm sure bummed that we have to choose between Deer or Elk in the same time frame. At least for me, there are no Elk where I hunt Deer so I will have to choose between the 2
The mountains are calling and I must go

I thought the same but with it being white I wasn't sure.  I really enjoyed that late muzzy season. It was a lot of fun and we would usually see some pretty nice Bulls for the area.

Yeah late season is pretty limited on units that are open to hunt.  Not sure yet if I'll be buying an archery tag or a muzzleloader tag, but if I decide on muzzleloader I won't bother hunting the late season.
