How would you define how to compare to come up with a best area?  % harvest, overall harvest, access?  trophies?

Let's put it this way. The WDFW gives the worst areas for disabled hunters to hunt, at least up here and everyplace I've checked into.

I would say that what I would like is, a high harvest area for nice bulls and disabled hunters, access, trophies are good, but not a deal breaker. I have a 6x5 on my wall. I don't want a stinking cow.... :chuckle:

I hunt alone, so my ATV is my friend and nobody elses. I can hunt anyplace in the state, since I'm retired. I've applied for a multiseason permit and I'm trying to base my question off of possibly drawing one...
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Campmeat- I think if I were you I'd plan on buying a Weyerhaeuser access permit if you draw the multi season. You won't be able to use your ATV, but you can drive logging roads in your truck all day. Get the St. Helens permit or Pe Ell. Permits will be up for sale the last week of May.

I've hunted, Greenwater, Randle, Kapowsin, Taneum, Clockum (?) Peoh Point, Salmon La Sac and everywhere in between those areas. BUT, those were the good old days. I don't want to waste 12 points on a crappy bull. I have a 6x5 on the wall and would like a pig. I'm not much of an elk or deer hunter anymore because of all the crappy rules that defeat a hunters success, especially since I'm disabled. We get the worst areas to hunt in, period..

I've never hunted the Blues, but I can't hump the hills anymore due to my knees, so that's out, unless I can get ATV access to a very good spot, from the game dept. I got info on Lick Creek at the WDFW there, but I can only ride 2 miles from the parking lot, nice huh !!

What is your definition of a "crappy" bull?

The Colockum has green dot road system and is very ATV friendly with elk all over the place.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking with disabled and limits on hunters, a tree farm might be a decent option.  You can drive around and scan clear cuts and reprod.

I would look into a ranch hunt then. Each to his own, but I would never consider an animal that feeds my family "crappy". Sure we all would like to kill a big bull, but if that's all its about there are lots of ranches that would give you what your looking for, without alot of hiking..  :twocents:

But, it has tons of hunters. I'm looking for behind the gates with keys or a disabled, special area where there are few people. I don't like being around people, not used to it. Haven't lived near a town with more than a thousand people for a long time....maybe that's why I get so grumpy on here at times......

Lots of elk, no people, road access for ATV's and keys to locked gates...

My opinion is that you're searching for the near impossible.

I just want to make sure that we are on the same page.

You are looking for the following:
   - 6x6 bull or better
   - Over the counter unit
   - High harvest success
   - ATV access
   - Minimal people, but you will have to be near a road for your ATV as you can't hike
   - You are disabled but hunt alone? (just curious what you will do if you actually shoot something)

If this is really what you are looking for then I'm thinking you are SOL. I would say go on a ranch hunt because what I lined out above doesn't exist. If you want a bull you have to look at the north east corner or the west side. The northeast corner is close to you but a real challenge unless you can really cover some ground on foot or have insider information. As mentioned get in on one of the weyerhauser or tree farm permits would be your only real shot as far as I can tell.

My suggestion is a fully outfitted, out of state, private land hunt.  :twocents:

I asked myself the same question. So, I compiled harvest data for the last two years and weighted certain stats--# of people, # of bulls harvested, and distance from Seattle.

I wanted close to Seattle, lots of bulls, fewer people, obviously.  Archery stats only. Westside only.

654 scored highest.

Seems like most elk on the westside are on timberland.
