Bear rug question
« on: April 07, 2015, 08:24:42 PM »
I was asked a question tonight that I have no idea on. How to get dog pee out of a bear rug. Apparently a friend of my ex has a nice bear rug that the neighbors dog just broke in. I figured I would pick the brains of the Hunt-Wa experts. Myself I think step one would be shoot the dog, just kidding. Although the dog should be glad it's not my rug.  :chuckle:

Oddly enough I have never had a Dog pee on any of my mounts but my Wife has a Cat that urinated on a Coyote hides that had fallen off the wall.  I didn't know it until a few days later.  I could smell it.  So I tried washing that area with a mild soap and water.  Well I ended up throwing it away a few years later because that spot ended up becoming fragile and tore really easy.  My old Taxidermist, who has since retired, said that it was a result of something in the urine.

I would take it to a Taxidermist and have them take a look at it and clean it if the damage hasn't already been done.

I think Michelle would be a good choice.  She seams to know Bears and Rugs.  She is currently working on my Fall Bear from last year.  I just need to decide if I am doing a Rug or a Life Size.  Her work was superb from what I saw.  She had several Bear Rugs and other mounts done and in various process when I dropped my Bear off.  You could at least give her or any Taxidermist a call and get a professionals opinion on what needs to be done.
