Hunter Ed incentive tag
« on: April 18, 2015, 02:24:12 PM »
Well I'll let the cat out of the bag. I drew one of the 500 series elk tags as an instructor incentive tag. I know my post count isn't real high and people will have negative comments about the tag or me asking for help. But I'm really excited in facr to make matters worse. This will be my first elk ( hopefully). However here lies the problem......  I hunt the east side and have never stepped foot on hunting land on the west side. ( I was the last pick and this was the tag available). So yes I'm looking for information, tips, unit help, what to expect etc. I appreciate any knowledge shared. Feel free to pm me and we can discuss the hunt that way if you don't want specific info on the open thread.  Thank you again in advance for any and all help

Look at the early rifle seasons, you can get a big bull there.  Congrats on the draw

Congrats on the draw, and thanks for volunteering.

I can't really help you, but I hope someone does.

What are your dates and restrictions on your hunt, there are some good units you have access to!

As long as there is an open tag, than I am able to participate too whether it's special permit or not. I just have to follow the rules ( archery,ml,rifle) with that open permit

I Was drawn also. But the tags left were in region 4-5 and 6. For elk or deer. I passed on them this am.

Good luck.

Congratulations on the draw, I had the 18th pick and drew any deer in any 400 GMU,  the Stampede unit is only a 15 minute drive so I will be hunting there, might want to make contact with some other instructors on the site that know the areas for your  hunt.

They were a mix of deer mostly and the elk tag that was left was 3 pt or better region 6. I have no intrest in that.
Region 4 was any deer.

Again   :yeah:

I will also add that you passed on a region 6 Tag?  Maybe I am wrong.  If I read correctly you could hunt during the quality elk permit seasons.  I can think of a few GMU's on the west end that are guaranteed big bull.  All you have to do is get out of your rig.
