Para Ordinance
« on: April 29, 2015, 11:56:07 AM »
So I have an older Springfield Ultra Compact 1911. I like the gun except for the SIGHTS! They are what they called "Hi Visible" sights, the are tall, square and pointy. Why they put these on carry guns I have no Idea. Anyways I looked into getting Novak style sights installed, needless to say after the sights and machining required it was close to $300 and just not worth it to me.

So that brings my to my question. I thought about taking the money I would have spent on the sights and trade in my Springfield for a new 1911. One that caught my eye was the Para Ordinance Elite Officer.

http://para-usa.com/2013/firearms/elite/officer.php

It has the sights I want, is virtually the same size/weight as my Springfield, and has a ramped barrel (Achilles heel of 1911's IMO). Problem is I cant find a whole lot of reviews out there. anyone get their hands on one? maybe own or shot one? maybe have previous Para experience? anything helps guys, thanks.

I was offered a new Para 1911 for $725 with 5 magazines to go with it a few years ago. I passed on it as I've heard that they make triggers a bit... different... and many don't like it. Might want to try one out at the range.  :twocents:

Years ago I had a P14 and a P12, not that impressed with either. P14 took a lot of spendy machininging to change sights. thses were both double stacks and the grips are too big. P14 was heavy also. I have kimbers now much better!

I'm not sure that most Kimbers are in the OP's 'network' or that any offered really interest him, but yes, they are very well made, efficient firearms.

I bought a P13 the day after I turned 21 and love it! Owned it for almost 12 years now and still my favorite sidearm!

Just heard that Freedom arms is dissolving Para USA.  :( Figures. Well I have some thinking to do and see if I still want to get it. I was also looking at the Sig Ultra and Colt Defender. The Colt of course has the name but is spendy. and I like the looks of the Sig but they are also spendy and new to the 1911 game.
