what season? you thinking

With the regs out and a few changes like dates changing, adding more areas I have been thinking of changing some things up.

I still can't decide. I think I'm going to wait until about the end of August before I make up my mind. I could go with any of the three options.

I'm all in for archery; really concerned about the hot and dry forecast though.

I did draw one of those hunter ed incentive tags this year, any deer in the 400 units might just have to dust off the old rifle for that one, I haven't hunted the west side for over 30 years, given the mild winter I will probably hunt stampeed pass, what are the odds of drawing another raffle tag ?

There's a reason we work six to seven days a week in the off season

I'm having a real hard time deciding on what tag to get.  On one hand I had planned in getting real down and dirty with WA elk hunting this year.  Which got confused when I was offered the land owner tag in Utah.  I'd still like to put in time for WA bulls, but that would require me to archery hunt in the short muzzy season.  On the other hand the wife really enjoys chasing cows in the late season.  So getting an archery tag even without the chance at bulls still puts us in the woods together which is always quality time.

I have tried to talk her into hunting the muzzy season with me, but her experiences with archery and muzzy together hasn't been good.  Shots over her head and stalks ruined by long distance shooters has ruined her faith.  Combine that with the short season and I think I'm fighting a losing battle.

At the moment I think I will put in for points only on the draw and then wait to chose my tag until I get back from Utah.  Not sure if that is even possible as I thought I remembered having to choose a tag before applying.  Guess I should check into that pretty soon   If I can that means I wait to see if the wife can kill an elk on her own while I'm out of town.  If she does then I get a Muzzy tag.  If she doesn't I get an archery tag.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

If you only apply for points, you can exchange your tag for another weapon type, see page 5 of the 2015 reg's:

Problem with my plan is that I planned on choosing after I got back from Utah.  Doesn't look like that can happen as I am not expected back until after archery season starts and after the muzzy exchange period.

It almost looks like a guy could now apply for an eastern bull draw and then change the tag for westside if not drawn.  Is that how you read it?  Always thought that was a no-no!

I don't see 'All of the above' choice :dunno:  Quality choices are in modern.

It reads if you have applied for the special permit then you can not exchange your tag regardless if you dont get drawn. If you bought an eastern tag and only applied for points in the drawing then you can exchange it for a western tag but that is for points only application so you cant be drawn.

The first blue paragraph states that very clearly...up until the last word "Exceptions:"  If you combine "exceptions" with the first point under "Transport Tags" it confusingly reads as if you can.

Sounds like "You absolutely can not make a change after applying for a special permit...but if you are going to you must do it before these dates" :chuckle: Sure am glad this state clarifies things so well in the synopsis.

I believe you are right and I'm not really arguing that point.  Just trying to figure out why they would add "Exceptions:" where they did and then follow that with the mention transport tag exchange dates.
