I totally agree with the dude ..except for one thing ..later in the season I would rather leave the decoys home . they have heard every call and seen many decoys . I like to get in the timber and avoid field hunting .. I find it to be more rewarding to hunt the timber and make him come looking for you .If your in the timber and calling he knows there is brush and trees and other obstacles that is hiding you from him seeing you and he will come looking to find where you are hiding ..We all know its trail and error but we all have our own tricks to share ..A friend of mine lives over in your neck of the woods and he is telling me he is tired of looking at them  :dunno: :chuckle: :twocents:

I have yet to kill a bird using decoys or in a field. I prefer the hills to fields.

Agree with this article 2 out of 3. Having patience and persistence, as well as NOT overcalling. Usind decoys is never a bad idea though from my 16 years of turkey hunting expereience. The most important rule however is patience. "Patience kulls turkeys!" Thanks for sharing the article, off to get bird #2 with my 8year old son this weekend. Recommend using a blind and decoys when bringing small children. Good Luck everyone!!!! :tup:

I never used decoys either, but after I did start I have found that they do make a difference. I never used a strutter until 2011, as soon as the Toms saw him they came running in. My daughter shot a nice Tom at 9 yds right next to my strutter. He was out in a field strutting with the hens, there was no hope of calling him in. They were moving away to the right when I made a call, he looked over and ran in from over a 100 yds away. He stopped and said hello to a hen decoy and then challenged my strutter, that's when my daughter gave him a face full of #5's from a 20 ga.
