I think you will like the X-bolt. Yes there kinda ugly, but that doesn't really matter to me as long as it can get the job done ;). I have an A-bolt .270 win and it is a great shooter. I don't like the pad either, but it not like it is going to kill ya :P. But all of the articles I have read on them is about how nice they are. Supposed to have a really trigger, And they are a little lighter than the A-bolts. I personally like the detachable magazine but thats just me. I think the new X-bolt mags are straight, not staggered :dunno:. Could be wrong though.

I have the same, Browning .300 WSM X-Bolt Medallian.  Shot it a few times at the range, in the process now of experimenting with different loads. I'll post the load data I've compiled in a few days.  Shot 180's, 165's and 168's, recoil with the 180's was a bit sharp but the 168's TTSX are not bad recoil at all.  It will be my one gun for all when I get it dialed in.

I have an x-bolt ss in 300 win mag and I like it, very sleek and handles well I'm working on a load right now its between 180 partition and 168 ttsx.
I did have what I thought was a problem with the magazine the cartridges would not advance got to looking at the magazine and found a set screw on the the back, I turned it a 1/4 turn ccw and it fed perfectly after that.

Washelkhntr, I just posted my experimentation with .300 WSM loads and found my gold standard.  Maybe it can give you some guidelines on where to start (if you haven't already).  Good luck, I've grown to really like mine and it's the first Browning I've ever owned.  Shot 8" group the other day at 500 yards and 6" groups at 400.  Good luck with yours.

Looked at one of these in 300WM and just loved the way it shouldered and felt, I'm saving my bucks for this gun, so any updated info as you guys get it would be great and if anyone can tell me why I should get a wsm over a regular mag it would be helpful also. I'm a bowhunter so I don't know a whole lot about the differences in cartridges.

The short mag will have slightly less velocity than the standard WM..........not enough difference to really matter though.

With the WSM chambering you should be able to find a lighter weight rifle than one chambered in the standard chambering.  If light is what you're going for, that would be something to consider.

The WSM is supposed to be inherantly more accurate........although, I'm not sure about that.  I have two rifles chambered in 300WM and they are very accurate.  The 300WM is a very accurate round inspite of its short neck and belt.

I have two 300WM rifles, and haven't even shot a WSM so what I've said above is not from personal experience with any WSM's..........just what I've read.  (FWIW.)

Thanks Curly! With these kinds of calibers what kind of recoil difference are we talking if I went with a lighter rifle? I think the X bolt was weighing in around 7 pounds already, not sure I would want to go lighter but  :dunno:

I've heard that a 300WSM kicks less than the 300WM.  That makes sense since it holds less powder.

I'd look into getting a 270WSM if going the magnum route or just get a .270 or 7mm-08 or .308.  Personally, I like a little heavier rifle when shooting larger magnums.  Just call me a wuse, I guess.  It's all personal preference, but that is my  :twocents:
